Black and White

Past and present work

I was lucky to have my introduction to fine art photography during the film-based era. As college students we processed our film and spent countless hours in the darkroom bringing our images to life. Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Dorothea Lang, and Bernice Abbott were much appreciated as we worked to develop our own visual language. Those years were my foundation as an artist and in the intervening years I have returned to black and white when the images called for an absence of color. These days I am mostly grateful for the amazing advances enabled by digital technology that allow different photo-based means for visual communication.
