Isabela Island, Galápagos

Isabela is a large Island 80 miles in length with six prominent volcanos, five of which are considered active. Charles Darwin visited Isabela, then called Albermarle (for the Duke of Albemarle of England). It was exciting to visit two nesting cormorant colonies and observe nest building and other activities. Marine iguanas were seen scraping algae from the wet rocks and Galápagos penguins sunned themselves on nearby rocks. Nesting pelicans were seen and a Giant tortoise in the wild. Behind vessels Storm petrels skimmed the surface of the sea water foraging.
